Shiga Kogen Ski Resort is the largest in Japan and in fact the largest in Asia. It consists of 19 separate ski fields which can be accessed with one lift pass. The resort starts at 1341m above sea level and reaches 2307m at its peak, which is the highest ski resort in Japan.

The 19 ski areas can be accessed via a series of lifts, gondolas and rope ways as well as a free courtesy bus which accesses the Kidoike ski area.

Night skiing is available at selected ski areas only; Sun Valley, Maruike, Takamagahara Mammoth, Ichinose Family, Ichinose Diamond, Yakebitaiyama and Kumanoyu.

The resort consists of over 80 lifts, ropeways and gondolas and to traverse the whole resort by going on each lift can be quite a challenge for even the most experienced skiers.

Due to its high altitude base the quality of powder in Shiga Kogen is comparable to the best Hokkaido resorts and the resort area receives over 12m of snow every year.

The terrain across the resort is suitable for all levels of expertise from the easiest beginner runs to the double black runs and tree runs. The Resort hosted some ski events for the 1998 Nagano Olympics.

There is a bakery at the top of the mountain for skiers and snowboarders to have a break, which is also at the highest location in Japan.
