Details

Natural hot springs or onsen are public baths which are extremely popular and a must do while in Japan. Onsens are a great way to relax and sooth sore muscles after a long day on the mountain. There are many onsens located throughout Japan and Hakuba is no different.

Hakuba features some amazing rotenburos (outdoor baths) with spectacular views of the snow covered ski resorts and Northern Alps of Japan.

There are many types of hot springs and different regions of Japan are famous for the certain minerals found in the water. Japanese believe the different minerals provide certain health benefits. Some Japanese will travel great distances just to bath in these special waters. Hakuba has over 10 different hot springs scattered throughout the valley.

A guide for first timers can be found on "Taking a Japanese onsen bath".
