Myoko Kogen is a ski area that is rich in history, founded in the 1930's the area is famous for its inviting and warm hospitality.

Located in Niigata prefecture the area receives one of the heaviest snow falls in Japan and on average Myoko Kogen receives over 13m of snow annually.

The Main 4 Ski resorts areas are vast and are connected with an all mountain pass and there is something for everyone from the easier beginner slope through to intermediate and advanced.

The Myoko Kogen town of Akakura forms the base of the area and is an ideal location to stay while you are in Myoko Kogen, there you will find restaurants and bars and a daily Yamazaki convenience store. There is also a post office and two 711’s nearby for cash withdrawals.

Akakura sits at the base of Mt Myoko and rising above the town are the ski resorts of Akakura Onsen resort and Akakura Kanko Resort, a short bus trip away will give you access to Ikenotaira onsen resort and Myoko Suginohara resort. All these resorts can be accessed on the free shuttle which is accessed on the Big 4 all mountain pass available with your Japan Powder Package.

There are also some special resorts nearby that cost a little extra to get to but are well worth the visit, Seki Onsen resort being the most favoured by experienced skiers because of its great powder runs and steep slopes.

Accommodation in Myoko Kogen is mainly traditional Japanese style but western accommodation is available in some hotels.

Access to Myoko Kogen is easiest via Nagano City, from Tokyo you can catch the bullet train and then Japan Powder can organise a transfer from the station to your hotel directly by private shuttle. We can also transfer you directly from Narita Airport to Myoko Kogen by bus or shared shuttle service.
